oh my days!

Guys,

Massive apologies for not being able to make any blogs recently. My laptop decided to crash on me two weeks ago, and although I was able to back up some of my work, I've been in a right state since in frantically running from one computer room to another to do my work!! Finally managed to remember my blog login details so thought I'd better make an apologetic post.

Since the last time I typed, I've been pretty busy with my course, in choosing research projects to do (which we start next term) and trying to keep up with the reading... I've also had to sort out repairing my laptop, but it's going to be a another week before I get it back!

I've also been given my Clinical School Application form, and have been to a few open days to have a look around. I've decided not to really consider Oxford, simply because I can't see it offering me that much of a difference to Cambridge. On Wednesday I went down to see Imperial and UCL, and have to say I was quite impressed with UCL.

People always say that it's easier to get jobs in London if you go to Clinical School there, and that you are disadvantaged if you stay in Cambridge. To sort of iron out this myth a little, basically if I do decide to stay in Cambridge, the chances are I'll be doing my F1/F2 jobs (PRHO) in/around this area and not London. The majority of med students end up starting work around the clinical school they went to. After that though, there's nothing really stopping from applying for jobs in London, and from what I've heard, Cambridge graduates tend not to be so disadvantaged in finding jobs. The thing for me is that choosing the Cam clinical school will pretty much mean committing myself to stay in Cambridge for another 5 years, which is a pretty long time!

Also, I'm quite keen to eventually work in London, so I think for me perhaps the move to London will be the best thing. Anyhow, I've got two weeks to make up my mind before I submit my form, so I better get thinking about it!

I will try and keep you up-to-date with what I'm doing... *fingers crossed* I get my laptop back next week!

Take care,
Kief
